Slatted fencing
Contemporary horizontal fencing, popular on Crawley's newer homes.
Slatted fencing uses horizontal boards with small gaps. It suits newer homes in places like Forge Wood, Maidenbower and Kilnwood Vale, and is a popular way to update an older garden too.
Typical Crawley prices
Around £185 to £295 per panel width, or roughly £100 to £160 a metre, as most slatted fences are made to measure.
Decisions to make
- Gap width: smaller for privacy, larger for a lighter look
- Timber: treated softwood is cheapest; cedar and larch age to silver
- Height: up to 2m in a back garden without planning
- Screws: stainless steel avoids dark stains on the boards
Common questions
Is slatted fencing private?
With gaps of 10 to 15mm it gives good privacy while letting light through.
Can slatted panels go on concrete posts?
Yes, with the right brackets, though many people prefer timber or aluminium posts for the look.
